Sauber C14 (Diorama)
Description
This Sauber C14 diorama was created for a modeling contest themed around the Monaco Grand Prix and was my first attempt at building a diorama.
The scene recreates Heinz-Harald Frentzen’s #30 Sauber C14 following his accident during practice at the 1995 Monaco Grand Prix. The damaged car and its surroundings were reproduced based on reference photographs from the event.
Creating the scene required modifications to the model itself, including cutting and repositioning components such as the wings to reproduce the damaged car. For the flower bed surrounding the statue in the background, I used painted dried flowers to reproduce the vegetation seen at the actual location.
Unlike a standalone model, this project required consideration of the car together with the surrounding environment. Research into the location, composition, and individual elements became an important part of the building process.
After completing the diorama, a friend living in Monaco contacted me after seeing the finished work. Having someone familiar with the actual location see the model made this project particularly memorable. Someday, I would like to visit the location myself.
