DeltaWing
Description
The Nissan DeltaWing was a car I had wanted to build since STUDIO27 released the 1/43 scale kit.
Several areas of the model were modified or detailed, including the antenna, equipment around the cockpit, and components at the rear of the car.
The decals supplied with the kit were extremely thin and delicate. After application, they were sealed with a semi-gloss clear coat to protect them and reproduce the appearance of the original car’s bodywork.
The Nissan DeltaWing competed at the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans as the first entry in Garage 56, a special category created by the ACO for innovative cars competing outside the official classification. The project explored a different approach to racing-car design, reducing weight, aerodynamic drag, fuel consumption, and tire use while maintaining competitive performance.
Its narrow front end and unconventional proportions make the DeltaWing very different from conventional Le Mans prototypes, and reproducing these characteristics was an important part of this 1/43 scale build.
