McLaren MP4/1B
Description
The McLaren MP4/1B marked my return to Formula One model building after a break, making it the perfect opportunity to experience the latest quality offered by Tameo Kits.
Compared with modern Formula One cars, the MP4/1B features a clean and elegant design that perfectly represents the early 1980s. It also became my first model finished in the iconic Marlboro livery. Reproducing the distinctive Marlboro red proved to be the greatest challenge of the entire project. After testing numerous fluorescent red paints, I ultimately chose Marlboro Red from Model Factory Hiro, which provided excellent color accuracy, smooth coverage, and outstanding opacity.
For the first time, I also used photo-etched seat belts produced by Studio Rosso. Their quality and level of detail exceeded my expectations, and they have since become my preferred choice for future Formula One projects.
Another new challenge was building two versions of the MP4/1B simultaneously. Alongside Niki Lauda’s car, I also built John Watson’s version. As the work progressed, the two models gradually followed their own individual paths, much like a real Formula One team preparing separate race cars.
Niki Lauda’s MP4/1B represents one of the defining cars of his remarkable Formula One career, making this version especially meaningful to me. I was also honored when the completed model was featured on the official Tameo Kits website.
