McLaren MP4/4B
Description
The McLaren MP4/4B was built using a Tameo Kits McLaren MP4/4 as the base together with a transkit produced by Appendix Club.
This was my first experience using a transkit for a 1/43 scale model. The conversion required fitting and modifying components from the transkit to reproduce the different specification of the MP4/4B.
The MP4/4B was a test version of the MP4/4 used during the transition from the turbocharged era to the new 3.5-litre naturally aspirated Formula One regulations for 1989. McLaren and Honda used the MP4/4B as part of the development work for the new naturally aspirated engine package. McLaren itself records the MP4/4B as one of its B-spec test cars from 1988/89.
Combining the Tameo Kits base model with the Appendix Club transkit allowed me to reproduce a test specification that differs significantly from the race versions of the MP4/4.
