McLaren MP4/5
Description
The McLaren MP4/5 is another Formula One model from Tameo Kits, representing the San Marino Grand Prix version driven by Alain Prost, who went on to become the 1989 Formula One World Champion.
Tameo Kits released both the Brazilian Grand Prix and San Marino Grand Prix versions of the MP4/5. For this project, I chose the San Marino specification, recreating Prost’s championship-winning machine with careful attention to detail.
As with several of my recent Formula One builds, I replaced the headrest and mirrors with custom-designed 3D-printed parts to improve their accuracy and overall appearance. These subtle modifications help bring the model closer to the real car while maintaining the character of the original kit.
This was also the fifth Marlboro-liveried Formula One car I had built. With each project, I gained a better understanding of the distinctive painting techniques required to reproduce the iconic Marlboro red, making this model another important step in refining my finishing process.
