Benetton B186 Mexico GP #20 Gerhard Berger

Description

The Benetton B186 Mexico Grand Prix version was built from a Tameo Kits 1/43 scale kit.

Although I also own B186 kits produced by M.Model, Meri Kits, and Provence Moulage, I chose the Tameo Kits version for this project. Comparing the different interpretations of the same Formula One car by various kit manufacturers was an interesting part of the project.

Unlike many of my other builds, this model required very few additional modifications or detail-up parts. Instead, I focused on the body finish, proportions, and overall appearance while retaining the original kit configuration.

Gerhard Berger drove the #20 Benetton B186 to victory at the 1986 Mexican Grand Prix after starting fourth. The result marked both Berger’s first Formula One victory and the first Grand Prix win for Benetton.

The project was temporarily put aside during production and was eventually completed alongside the Detroit Grand Prix version of the B186. Building the two versions together provided an opportunity to compare and reproduce the specification differences between the two cars.
